Firefighters made gains on the Old Trails and Fairview fires Sunday due to cooler temperatures and higher humidity, but the Spokane Area Fires remain at 0% containment, according to the Spokane Complex Fire Incident Management Team (IMT). The fires, which began August 1, now cover 8,026 acres across Spokane and Stevens counties and have impacted an unconfirmed minimum of 600 structures.
A temporary flight restriction (TFR) remains in effect over the fire area, with 26 unauthorized drone incursions reported yesterday. Fire officials warned that such incursions could force suspension of aerial firefighting operations. Evacuation shelters are open at the Spokane Convention Center and Northwood Middle School, with additional facilities at the Spokane County Fairgrounds and Jenkins High School.
